Prod. Dr Pham Quang Minh warmly welcomed the representative of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Vietnam, the Taiwanese scholars and especially writer Wu Sheng for visiting and introducing his book to USSH's students. The Rector said Literature is a traditional major at USSH. Among over 300 of USSH's partners, the Taiwanese ones played an important role such as Wenzao University, National Taiwan University, and National Cheng Kung University. Every year, the University holds the Taiwan's education exhibition and its Taiwan Education Center usually holds cultural exchanges. USSH's Division of Chinese Studies, Center for Chinese studies, and Faculty of Literature are the units most interested in Chinese culture and literature. The translation and introduction of the book "Sweet burden" (甜蜜的負荷) was a prominent and meaningful joint activity between USSH and the Office, especially when the understanding of Taiwanese literature in Vietnam was still nominal.
Prof. Dr Pham Quang Minh and Mr. Richard R. C. Shih
Mr. Richard R. C. Shih expressed his thankfulness for USSH's support and emphasized it is one of Vietnam's leading universities specializing in social sciences and humanities and the two sides had formed close relations. He believed this bilateral relationship would continue in the coming time. This became even more meaningful as the Vietnam-Taiwan relations became increasingly developed in not only economic, trade, investment, educational but also cultural and literary areas.
Prof. Dr Pham Quang Minh and writer Wu Sheng
To help peoples of the two countries better understand one another, the work "Sweet burden - Duet poem and short literature by Wu Sheng" was picked to be introduced to Vietnamese audience. Wu Sheng is the most famous contemporary Taiwainese poet and his poem "Sweet burden" has been included in Taiwainese textbooks.
