Meeting with Mrs. Caitlin Wiesen (UNDP's Country Director)

Monday - 24/09/2018 04:39
On September 22nd, 2018, USSH's Vice Rector Hoang Anh Tuan welcomed Mrs. Caitlin Wiesen (Country Director of United Nations Development Programme, Vietnam)

Mrs. Caitlin Wisen sent her thanks to USSH for co-holding the Social Good Summit at the University's Campus at the beginning of the academic year. It is the annual event held by UNDP globally in order to discuss creative solutions and promote the response to challenges faced by nations. She also shared about the activities currently undertaken by UNDP directed at the youth such as Youth CoLab, Model United Nations and How Abnormal.

UNDP was grateful for welcoming the students of USSH. According to the Youth Solutions Report on the Sustainable development goals (SDG) issued by UNCDP, the Vietnam's Ministry of Planning and Investment and partners in the early 2018, more than 7,000 youth from 63 Vietnam's provinces participated in the survey. Nearly 75% of the respondents had not heard about SDGs. Therefore,  events that introduce SDGs to the youth such as Social Good Summit is necessary.

The University currently sends staff to participate in ASEAN My World, an initiative launched by UNDP and the ASEAN General Secretary to investigate the understanding of SDGs among its citizens. Approximately 1,200 people had taken part in the survey in Vietnam, making it the most active country in ASEAN in this aspect. In 2020, Vietnam will serve as ASEAN's Alternate Chair. The high number of Vietnamese participating in ASEAN My World was good news, contributing to Vietnam's active participation in the Association's common activities.

On behalf of USSH, Vice Rector Hoang Anh Tuan said the two sides had abundant potential to cooperate through youth exchanges and other activities. The two sides could also hold lectures with the participation of UNDP's experts and workshops for USSH's students on Sustainable development and other related contents.
