On October 30th, 2017, Prof. Dr Pham Quang Minh (USSH’s Rector) and representatives of the Office for Cooperation and Development, the Center for Educational Quality Assurance welcomed and worked with Mr. Frank Niedermier (Center for Quality Management in Teaching and Studies, Potsdam University).

The meeting was about the participation of USSH in the Training Course under ASEAN-QA – a joint initiative by AUN, AQAN, DAAD, ENQA, HRK, SEAMEO-RIHED – aims at strengthening the capacity for internal and external quality assurance of Southeast Asian universities. The Course is joined by 32 Southeast Asian universities and lasts from March, 2017 to March, 2018. Upon completing the Course, the universities will report their results in 1 year. The three main activities registered by USSH are: (i) improving the English proficiency of its staff and lecturers, (ii) conducting online surveys on the teaching quality of lecturers, (iii) improving the curricula and programs.

Prof. Dr Pham Quang Minh reaffirmed quality accreditation plays an important role in USSH’s strategy of development. One of the most crucial areas for the University is improving the English capability of its staff, lecturers and students. Excluding “Lunch Box Club for English” and “Master’s Tea Club”, several other English courses have been regularly held by USSH and boosted the spirit of English learning in everyone’s study and research. USSH has also organized international conferences and promoted international publication. The University hopes to improve and affirm its quality culture through such activities.

The last year marked USSH’s progress in quality accreditation. The bachelor’s program in Philosophy was accredited by AUN based on its standards and became USSH’s third program to achieve this (after Linguistics and Oriental Studies). Besides, the bachelor’s programs in Vietnamese studies and Psychology were also highly validated by the Ministry of Education and Training. The University also conducted peer assessment with the bachelor’s programs in History and Sociology.
