The series aims to create an academic platform for Vietnamese and international lecturers, researchers, postgraduate and undergraduate students to discuss about environmental history, the impact of environment on life and culture, and urban transformations under environmental impact, in the pre-modern period of Vietnam.
The first seminar gathered nearly 40 lecturers, researchers and students from the VNU Hanoi, the French National Research Institute for Sustainable Development, the Vietnamese Institute of History, VNU Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi University of Education, etc. The two main speakers of the seminar were Assoc.Prof.Dr Hoang Anh Tuan (USSH's Vice Rector) and Prof. Emmanuel Poisson (Paris Deridot University-France).
The study of Assoc.Prof.Dr Hoang Anh Tuan focused on the topic "Records, topics and challenges in environmental history research in the pre-modern period of Vietnam". Meanwhile, Prof. Emmanual Poisson dissected "Some environmental views and conceptions in pre-modern Vietnam".
The seminar concluded with many questions, remarks and suggestions for further research from domestic and foreign researchers, generating great academic potential. The second seminar is expected to take place in December, 2019.
