On March 23rd, 2014, Assoc.Prof.Dr Pham Quang Minh (Vice Rector of USSH) had a meeting with the delegation from University of South Carolina (US) led by Prof. Paul Allen Miller (Distinguished Professor & Vice Provost and Director, International Programs). Also participating at the meeting were representatives from Faculty of Sociology, Faculty of Psychology and Office for International Cooperation and Programs.

Assoc.Prof. Dr Pham Quang Minh welcomed Professor Paul Allen Miller to USSH and said it is a leading and well-known center in sociology and social work in Vietnam. He proposed the implementation of cooperation between the USSH and University of South Carolina in the areas of social work, political science and Chinese studies. In particular, three proposals for cooperation with University of South Carolina were made in the field of Social Work, namely the development of a doctorate program in Social Work, establishment of professional enrichment centers for Social Workers, and invitation to young lecturers of Faculty of Sociology to visit University of South Carolina to learn more about its programs.

Prof. Paul Allen Miller received the proposals from Assoc.Prof.Dr Pham Quang Minh and said the University of South Carolina longed to cooperate with USSH in various issues regarding social work such as the treatment of aging population, healthcare for elders, community development especially the poor and minorities, mental healthcare for needy people, especially veterans, etc. He hoped to receive young lecturers of USSH to visit University of South Carolina and discussed more concretely about cooperation.

Founded in 1801 as South Carolina College, The University of South Carolina System has an enrollment of approximately 47,724 students, with 32,848 on the main Columbia campus as of fall 2013. Professional schools on the Columbia campus include social work, business, engineering, law, medicine, and pharmacy.
