At the meeting, Prof.Dr Pham Quang Minh introduced about USSH, a leading institution in Vietnam specializing in social sciences and humanities. The University currently has over 10,000 students and over 500 staff. Regarding international affairs, it has signed memoranda of understanding with over 300 foreign partners, including some Thai universities such as Burapha University, Bansomdejchaopraya Rajabhat University, and Kasetsart University. Last year, USSH for the first time launched the independent Southeast Asian Studies major, in which Thai language was officially taught as a foreign language.
Ambassador of Thailand to Vietnam Tanee Sangrat said the development of Vietnam-Thailand people-to-people diplomacy, including educational cooperation is one of the top priorities of his diplomatic service. To this end, the Embassy would provide scholarships for Vietnamese students, promote bilateral student exchanges and hold Thai education exhibitions. In particular, Mr. Tanee Sangrat invited USSH’s students to participate in two cultural events held by the Embassy in the next May, the coronation ceremony of the Thailand’s King Maha Vajiralongkorn at its headquarters and the Medical Tourism Exhibition at Ly Thai To Flower Garden in Hanoi.
Prof.Dr Pham Quang Minh highly appreciated the ideas posed by Ambassador Tanee Sangrat. The Rector also suggested the Ambassador invite volunteer scholars and teachers from Thailand to give lectures and presentations at USSH. In addition, he hoped the Embassy would ask universities in Thailand to send students to take part in short-term courses held by USSH, and would help it promote Thai studies and language.
